Whether you’ve never been whitewater rafting before, or you’re a seasoned veteran, Windfall Outdoor Center offers a broad range of rafting trips designed to accommodate any adventure travel vacation. Our northern Maine base services all of the New England area and beyond with our great rafting trips. People come from all over the world to enjoy our river rafting tours.
The Kennebec River is our most popular adventure. We offer this popular run daily from May through October. The Kennebec River is broken down into two sections of whitewater challenge. We offer various options and packages designed to be flexible to meet your vacation desires.
The Dead River boasts the longest contiguous stretch of white water in the Northeast. The Dead River is dam controlled and has high water releases in the spring and fall, with recreational releases during the summer. If you plan your vacation around a Dead River release, you won’t be disappointed
If you’ve “been there, done that,” your next adventure is to experience the exhilaration of running the rapids in an infaltable kayak. With a little instruction you will master paddling these stable and responsive craft. Of course, our guides accompany each trip if you need a few pointers along the way. Picking a channel and running teh shoots through the builder piles is a first class blast!
Because of the popularity of inflatable kayaking, we offer 4 different river stretches with inflatable trips. Read about these trips below and then click to find out more about our inflatable kayaking trips.
At recreational water levels, the Dead River becomes perfect territory for inflatable kayaking. You’ll wind your way through multiple rocks and dozens of rapids, dropping through chutes and holes. The Dead River recreational kayaking trip is only available during certain times per year, so please check our schedule to find the next time this trip launches.
Kennebec Lower Gorge
Just below the “major” rapids on the Kennebec River is the launch area for our Lower Kennebec inflatable kayaking trip. This 8 mile run on class II rapids includes lunch at our riverside lunch site.
At out lunch site on every Kennebec River trip, we break out our inflatable kayaks and share them between all of the guests on the trip. However, sometimes you might want to reserve an inflatable kayak for your exclusive use. Just let us know and we’ll pack an extra boat which you can use exclusively for the rest of the trip (additional fee applies).
Kennebec East Outlet
The Kennebec East Outlet trip is a perfect trip for groups such as youth groups, groups with lots of children, or groups who don’t want too much whitewater excitement. The trip has mild rapids which makes it a perfect trip for many individuals and groups.
Our Rock Climbing adventure at Mt. Kineo is perfect for beginner and intermediate climbers. The site sits across a beautiful lake (which we water taxi across) and offers fantastic views of the area. Our skilled guides will instruct you on proper climbing techniques, safety and proper usage of equipment. We provide everything you need for the trip. You can choose between climbing and rappelling, or both!
Spend a day in the beautiful backwoods of Maine. Our professional guides will take you on one of our many bike trails with plenty of hills, single-track, and excitement. In the afternoon, relax and enjoy a trailside lunch before getting back into the action.
This high-action activity is perfect for groups or families. Our paintball facilitators will outfit you with everything you need for your paintball games. Choose from games like “capture the flag” or “elimination” and enjoy the fun
Moxie Falls Day Hike
Spend a half day hiking into Moxie Falls, the largest waterfall in the New England area at 97 feet. This easy hike wonders through the dense Maine woods and into position to view the falls from a perfect vantage point.
We provide you with driving directions to the hike entrance. We also offer this easy hike to anyone partcipating in the Kennebec Lower only trip. The hikers will meet up with the raft trip and get on board for the lower stretch, including lunch. This is a perfect option for young families.
Most people usually associate the northern Maine wilderness with rolling hills, beautiful trees, winding rivers, plentiful ponds and the large Maine moose. The Moose River Valley gets its name for a reason; it’s home to thousands of moose who roam free through the woods. We can point you to the best areas to see the largest member of the deer family.
A couple of our accommodations as well as a few other local establishments offer canoe rentals. With the large amounts of water in the area, you will find plenty of places to explore via canoe. Big Wood Pond is the favorite place to take a canoe. In the middle of the lake you’ll discover an island perfect for a quiet remote lunch. We can also arrange a 3-5 day canoe trip called the Moose River Bow.
Float Plane Tours
There’s usually no better way to capture the essence of an area than by air. Windfall can connect you with float plane tours in the Moose River Valley area. This trip is an excellent way to fill an extra vacation day or gives you various options for your family. While some of the family are off kayaking the Seboomook river, the rest can take to the skies and enjoy the scenic Maine wilderness from the air.
